Big Tune: Kitten - Don't Kill The Light

I gave this track a listen before finding out any information on the band. Upon falling in love with “Don't Kill the Light”, I did some reading and found out that the appropriately named Kitten is fronted by the fifteen year old Chloe Chaidez. Despite Ms. Chaidez’s age, she is putting out vocals and lyrics of someone with years of experience. Perhaps the raw teenage emotion that we all still feel from time to time is what draws me in. Either way, I can’t wait to hear more from these talented teens.

Bonus note from Mel: Paramore's Hayley Williams was kicking a lot of ass at this age too, which sort of bodes well for Chaidez's future. "Don't Kill The Light" is a fucking awesome song.

We don't hide it here at The Ruckus that we're fans of the folk scene, and we're big fans of The Ryan O'Reilly Band after seeing them perform for a good few years in various London venues: pubs, student venues, impromptu gigs, bars and jazz clubs. Every time they deliver a bloody good performance.

Big Tune: Shout Out Louds - Fall Hard (Passion Pit Remix)

Passion Pit's synthy, patently awesome version of Shout Out Louds', new single "Fall Hard" (out this week on their new album Work) does a great job of illustrating exactly what a remix should do - complement the original track while spinning it (subtly or overtly) into something completely new.

Big Tune: Broken Social Scene - World Sick

I'm a little excited (and by a little, I mean a lot). I've been waiting five years for Broken Social Scene to record a new album, and finally, on May 4th, I'm getting one (the fantastically titled Forgiveness Rock Record). I keep referring to myself because I'm pretty sure that this album was recorded just for me (but I'm nice, and do plan to share it with the rest of the world). Anyway, as a teaser, the band have released the epic "World Sick", a gorgeous song (and long at nearly seven minutes) that tells me that the record will have been well worth the wait. Big Tune: Vampire Weekend - Ruby Soho (Rancid Cover)

This is in essence what I love about Twitter: my friend Adam (who happens to be my best friend Rachel's boy) retweeted his friend Chris's tweet about this insanely brilliant cover of Rancid's "Ruby Soho", which is a song that was seminal in my introduction to punk music, and remains one of my favorite songs of all time (as the brilliant Frank Turner sings, "punk rock saved my life").

This cover makes me feel like I'm 18 again, but in a really weird way. I like it.

Big Tune: Murder By Death: Foxglove

One of my favorite bands, Murder By Death just released a new song from their upcoming Good Morning, Magpie (out April 6, 2010 on Vagrant).

I'm not surprised that I loved "Foxglove" on the first listen. Adam Turla's unmistakable Johnny Cash-esque vocals are in fine form as always. Sarah Balliet's cello soars through the piece. You'll be moved to dance and sing along and listen again.
