Denver: Mark Your Calendars
Written by Tiffiny // March 19, 2012 // Features, Live // No comments
My feelings about the end of March in the Denver area are conflicted: I don’t quite know how I’m going to be standing at the end of it and there’s a lot of “THIS IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME” happening. I suppose spring has officially arrived in the music scene, even though we’ve still got a few months of snow in these parts.
23 March / Andrew Jackson Jihad / Marquis Theater / [tickets]Andrew Jackson Jihad were a huge part of my favorite show last year. This time they are joined by Laura Stevenson and the Cans who I am absolutely crazy about and ROAR, who’s single we just premiered. This show is going to be KILLER.

26 March / Henry Rollins / Boulder Theater / [tickets]
As many of you know, Henry Rollins is a Ruckus hero. I’ve actually seen him speak quite a few times and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Every word is worth hanging on to.
27 March / The Menzingers / Marquis Theater / [tickets]
The Menzingers have put out that album this year. The one I can’t stop listening to. I need to see them live like I haven’t needed to see a band in years.
28 March / Sharon Van Etten / Bluebird Theater / [tickets]
Sharon Van Etten’s Tramp is like a punch to the stomach. An unbelievably gorgeous, melodic punch to the stomach. It’s almost too much to listen to- it certainly isn’t something that you can just put on for background music. Well, maybe background music to a good cry. Definitely another album of the year contender.
30 March / Say Anything / Summit Music Hall / [tickets]
Here’s another killer line up- Say Anything (sure to be a fun show), Kevin Devine (heck yeah!), Fake Problems (official Ruckus favorite band), and Front Bottoms (new obsession for both of us). I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday night.
30 & 31 March / Lucero / Bluebird Theater / [tickets]
This is actually part of a four night run Lucero are doing in Colorado (nights one and four being in Fort Collins and Colorado Springs respectively). Lucero are a folk-punk tradition. Their shows are always a blast. They will be joined by Larry and His Flask (who we talk about all the time here), so these shows are going to pack an extra punch.
1 April / Franz Nicolay / Summit Music Hall / [tickets]
Franz is another one of our favorite people from his days with The Hold Steady to his every day mustachioed badassery. But seriously, I adore Franz Nicolay’s music. Kevin Seconds (7 Seconds), Kepi Ghoulie (The Groovie Ghoulies), and Scooter James (Tin Horn Prayer) are also on the bill for a night of spectacular solo work.
