30 Days of Covers: The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
01 If I’m going to start a project about covers, this is pretty much the way to send it off. I’m not one to state that a cover is better than the original, because without the original, the cover wouldn’t exist. This is all very philosophical, but I am a music blogger after all. However, in this situation, the cover made me appreciate the original structure.
Ben Marwood‘s take on The Postal Service‘s is a stripped down, acoustic, melodic, melancholic track (much more along the lines of what I would normally be found listening to).

Frank Turner‘s interpretation is along those lines, but adding the desperate intensity that only Frank can.

Last but not least, we have Birdy‘s version, which is perhaps more loyal to the original. It’s got the electronic element, but the real performance is in her vocal performance which just knocks me flat on my back no matter how many listens I give it.

And to keep true to the mission, here is the original.
