Listening to one album in 2012? Listen to Ivy Mairi’s No Talker!
I loved Ivy Mairi’s Well You so much, that it’s one of my most played albums. Her new album, No Talker, is quickly climbing up there.
Sophomore albums are often tricky- can they live up to the quality of the first? Can they surpass the first album?
I’d say that in many ways, No Talker surpasses Ivy’s debut album, and is even more folky and harmonic. There are so many things I love about Ivy’s voice; her soft rasp, the slight twang, even the slight tremble in her voice- all these attributes blend and create this rich, warm voice that envelops you and drowns you in the music.
Her second album, No Talker, has surpassed every expectation. There seems to be a wider variety of instrumentation on the album, the songs sound fuller, making it evident that Ivy is a consummate perfectionist.
Check out some of my favourite tracks:
Ivy Mairi | No Talker | Just Go
