Do it in Tampa: See The Mountain Goats & Nurses at Crowbar
Written by Melanie // January 23, 2012 // Features, Live // No comments
Dearest Tampa,
We need to talk about what you’re doing on Wednesday night, and if your answer is anything other than “why, going to Crowbar with you,” you’re going to need to change your plans. For a mere $14, folks of all ages can come watch The Mountain Goats and Nurses tear up Crowbar with us. Obviously, I am pretty excited about this (bit of an understatement really).
Love,
The Mustache
Not familiar with Nurses or The Mountain Goats? Learn more about the bands:
Portland based indie rock with a funky, experimental vibe, but not so funky and experimental that you feel like you’re being forced to listen to your little brother’s garage funk band. More like really really good funky experimental indie rock. They use words like “textures” and are not super interested in traditional rock & roll instrumentation, which makes us like them even more.

I am obsessed with this band. John Darnielle decided to become a poet and then decided that his poetry sounded more like songs, which is a really good thing because if he hadn’t, then we wouldn’t have songs like “This Year” or “Dilaudid” or “Love Love Love” or “Genesis 30:3″. They would be poems in a chapbook instead and that just wouldn’t be the same. Again with the indie rock, Darnielle was joined a few years ago by Peter Hughes and Jon Wurster, and together they make music that makes me want to be a better man.
Listen to “This Year”:
I broke free on a Saturday morning… – this track contains some of the best lyrics ever written in the history of ever.

So come out. We know it’s a school night, but you’ll be home in time for curfew, and if you’re not, this show is worth being grounded for. Oh, by the way – for like 24 more hours, our buddies at Suburban Apologist are giving away tickets to see this show.
