The Black Keys’ “Little Black Submarines”

Written by Kenzie  //  November 30, 2011  //  Features, Tracks  //  4 Comments

The Black Keys

I would say that I’m going to shut up about the Black Keys after this, but that would be a lie; the new album is out in a week and I will be right back here with a review of it when that happens. Plus, I’m doing you a favor. If you aren’t listening to the Black Keys, you need to be. If you haven’t heard these songs, you are missing out. And if you haven’t heard “Little Black Submarines,” I’m about to become your new best friend.

This song is important, folks. It is a Big Deal. I can only hope that this song, this sound, is a sign of what 2012 is going to sound like. As the song starts off, it is easy to assume that you are getting a different flavor of Black Keys here, a quieter Dan Auerbach set against largely acoustic instrumentals. But it is at about the halfway point, when the sound ramps up about a gazillion notches, that the song goes from great to out-of-this-world, mind-blowingly fantastic.

The Black Keys – Little Black Submarines

Listen to it. Be astounded. And stay tuned for the full album review next week.

Little Black submarines is my new favorite song in the world. It sounds like something a great band from the 60s would’ve made. It makws me proud of my generations music.

If you listen carefully you hear that “Little Black Submarines” it sounds reminiscent of Jetho Tull’s Aqualung. The Black Keys have always known their history. They’re just showing it. Again.

I wouldn’t say this is a new flavour of the black keys. To me it sounds like they’re going back to their roots (which is awesome) When brothers came out I was worried I had lost the band I once loved, but now it almost seems a if they released that album to open their music up to a wider demographic (and if that was the plan it worked) a few years ago only a handful of people I knew had heard about the black keys now everyone knows and they’re going back to why they were so good in the first place hopefully the success of their last album turns people onto their true sound and people will see why Ive been talking about this band for years now :P
