Photos: Frank Turner at the Marquis, Denver

A very ill Frank Turner gave his all to Denver last night in what is one of the most intense shows I’ve ever attended. Two and a half years ago or so, I saw Frank at the Marquis Theater for his very first appearance in Colorado where about fifty people showed up. Last night sold out and there was a crowd waiting outside over an hour before doors. The whole room was singing along, hanging on to every word. What happens on stage at a Frank Turner show is always something intense, but tonight the room matched the energy of the band. I spent most of the show fighting to stay upright (and protect poor Cheryl who I had dragged to the front with me from getting thrown out of her chair) as people slam danced, stage dove, and generally rocked the fuck out. Post “One Foot Before the Other”, I had a moment where I thought I may throw up from the adrenaline rush of being that involved in the rush and roar. I don’t regret a second of it and had the time of my life, as always.
Frank Turner – One Foot Before The Other
As the night went on, Frank’s voice gave way to a nasty cold and the set went a bit shorter then planned, but it certainly did not lack any heart. To top off the night, Turner threw himself into the crowd. I feel like I’m failing on finding words for exactly what that felt like, but I’m still riding the high.
As you probably know if you’ve spent five minutes talking to me or reading this blog, I’m a bit of a Frank Turner super fan. I wear that badge proudly. Melanie and I lovingly refer to him as the mascot of this blog because he gave us our start and we’d write about him every day if we could. Seeing the transformation in how people are receiving his music makes me ecstatic. If there’s someone out there who deserves every bit of attention, it’s Frank. Attending the show with a handful of friends and familiar faces that I know I was directly responsible for spreading the word of Frank Turner to helped make this evening something special. Thank you all for reading/listening/upping the punx.
Once again, the amazing SxPxDxCx has come to my rescue and posted a recording of the show. Download it here.
