CMJ Spotlight: The Bright Light Social Hour

The gentlemen who make up The Bright Light Social Hour are some of the raddest dudes I’ve met over the last year. They’re also some of the most talented, the most handsome, and the most likely to sing songs about fucking. They are our spirit animal in terms of ass kicking mustachery and general getting down, and well – they’re playing a CMJ Showcase Saturday night at The Mercury Lounge.

See? There is no way that you can miss this show. It’s only $12. And you can even enjoy a bunch of other (not as cool) bands beforehand, which gives you plenty of time to get loaded on vodka and cranberry. If you do go to the showcase, here’s what you can look forward to (and if you don’t, here’s what you’ll be missing):
Here’s the formal bio, written by someone with more cred than I have:
The Bright Light Social Hour is an American rock band from Austin, Texas. Born out of a university art-rock collective, The Bright Light Social Hour has evolved into an unabashedly wide-screen rock group, melding fists-up rock and roll with muscular funk, soul, and psychedelia. The band recently swept the 29th Annual Austin Music Awards during SXSW 2011 with an unprecedented 6 wins, including Band of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year (“Detroit”).
They really are that fantastic.
Here are some photos from this year’s appearance at Antiwarpt:
And finally, this is a little bit dated, but it’s probably the best PSA ever made, and honestly, if you don’t want to see The Bright Light Social Hour live before it’s over, then we don’t want to see you there, either. Jerks.
