Top Five By the Charts

My last.fm doesn’t update very often. I don’t know why. I’ve tried reinstalling it, changing the settings, restarting my computer, and restarting my iPod. It isn’t the biggest deal in the world, but every couple months when it does update, I enjoy tracking what I’ve been listening to. This possibly seems like a no-brainer to some people, but I find that what charts isn’t necessarily the way I remember it. For example, I would say that U2 is my favorite band right now, but they are all the way down at number ten on my overall listens. However, in the end, I’m quite fond of my top five. So here are my top five artists (per last.fm) and my top song by each (per last.fm).
Frank Turner – Reasons Not to Be An Idiot
It isn’t a surprise that Frank Turner is my number one. Have you read my blog? However, I would have guessed that “Jet Lag” would be the most listened to track.
Frank Turner – Reasons Not To Be An Idiot
Josh Ritter – Good Man
I always refer back to “Naked as a Window” for my favorite Josh Ritter track. This one, though, I remember as being one of the first songs of his that I adored.
The National – Bloodbuzz Ohio
High Violet has gotten an amazing number of plays from me. It is an album that I fall asleep to, an album that fits every road trip, and an album that always fills the gaps. I would’ve called “Lemonworld” my favorite track, but “Bloodbuzz Ohio” feels like home.
Fake Problems – Soulless
Heck yeah Fake Problems! If you don’t like this band, you’re in the wrong. When this song came out as a single, it got a lot of play from me. Now it exists twice on the album Real Ghosts Caught On Tape because I’ve never bothered to fix it. For continuity’s sake, I’ll tell you that I think of “Heart BPM” as my all time favorite.
Laura Stevenson and the Cans – Baby Bones
I know that I love this band and that I could not stop listening to A Record last year as soon as I got my hands on it, but I couldn’t have told you which track came up first. What a sad and brilliant song.

Don’t have a last.fm, but looking at my 25 most played on iTunes, it’s a sorry state… it’s largely just a mixture of Lisa Hannigan, Damien Rice, Cathy Davey, The Frames, and Villagers. Time for some musical variety, methinks…
i get a little bit of variety here and there (i feel like this site forces me to) but there are a few that never go anywhere. those are good artists to be listening to obsessively, though.
I’ll play along. Top 5 played songs on my iTunes.
