Duets

There’s something about combining male and female vocals that does it for me. The dynamic is gorgeous. Here are five of my favorite duets from some of my favorite artists.
Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) & Lisa Hannigan – Some Surprise
This track was written by Bell X1, another band that I’m fond of for their charity project, The Cake Sale. Lisa and Gary recorded this song perfectly. It’s one that I’ve put on repeat many times.

Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan – Volcano
Though all of their work together was credited as Damien Rice, I think of it more as a collaborative project between Damien and Lisa. Her voice adds leaps and bounds to both albums.
Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) & Martha Wainwright – Set the Fire To the Third Bar
As is the theme, I’m a huge fan of both Snow Patrol and Martha Wainwright‘s work. Martha’s harmonies drive this song right into my heart.

Rachael Yamagata & Ray LaMontagne – Duet
This is one of those songs that seeps sadness from every side. Yamagata and LaMontagne deliver performances that make my bones ache they’re so lovely and sad.
Tom Gabel (Against Me!) & Tegan Quin (Tegan & Sara)- Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart
As you’ve likely noticed, I also think pretty highly of both Against Me! and Tegan and Sara. It’s not a combination that I would have imagined, but this song is brilliant.

Tegan is the best Quin.
“volcano” will always be my favorite
I just did a duets list as well, focused on the past couple years. We share the Rachael/Ray tune:
