The UMS 2011: Lineup Part I – Thursday & Friday
If you’re anything like me and want to pack in as much music as humanly possible at the UMS, you’re a bit intimidated by the incredible lineup. For the record, the entire schedule is located here. In this post, I’ll be giving my recommendations. Remember, sometimes it’s a good idea to just hang out at a venue for a bit and hear something new. Give yourself time to wander- you’ll likely stumble across your new favorite band. Also, I cannot emphasize enough that you check out this Unofficial UMS Mixtape from our friend Tim Weilert at SpeakerSnacks.com. And, last but not least, I’ll contradict everything by saying PACE YOURSELF. Don’t burn out by Friday. There’s two more days of music and fun.
For Part II, Saturday & Sunday recommendations, go here.
Kitten / 10:00 pm / Club 404 – Jeremiah Weed Stage
My very first must see probably comes as no surprise to you. Kitten will be kicking off Thursday night with a performance at Club 404 at 10:00. We write about this band constantly. We love them and so should you. Their live performance is over the top energetic and will give you the push to make it through all four nights.
Nathan & Stephen / 11:00 pm / 3 Kings Tavern – Red Stripe Stage
Formerly one of the hottest bands in Denver, Nathan & Stephen only play together on special occasions these days. It’s always a pleasure to see this band and I’m excited for the inevitable surprises this show will bring.
Ha Ha Tonka / 11:55 pm / 3 Kings Tavern – Red Stripe Stage
Some more Ruckus sweethearts make their way to Denver for an amazing Thursday night. As Melanie and I can both attest to, Ha Ha Tonka are not to be missed under any circumstances.
FRIDAY
Hellogoodbye / 6:00 pm / Goodwill Parking Lot – Sailor Jerry Main Stage
Punk rockers Hellogoodbye will be stopping in fresh off their tour with our friends Fake Problems. I’m pretty stoked for this set.
Hellogoodbye – The Thoughts That Give Me The Creeps
Shane Sweeney (Two Cow Garage) / 7:00 pm / Club 404 – Jeremiah Weed Stage
Micah Schnabel (Two Cow Garage) / 8:00 pm / Club 404 – Jeremiah Weed Stage
I learned of Two Cow Garage from Suburban Home Records and have been a huge fan ever since. This band walked away with Melanie’s heart earlier this year in Florida and took a bit of Kenzie’s as well on their stop in Kentucky last month.
Two Cow Garage – Sally, I’ve been Shot
Glowing House / 10:00 pm / Hornet
We recently featured Glowing House as our band of the week. I’m excited to see how they’ve grown.
The Centennial / 11:00 pm / Hi-Dive – Illegal Pete’s Stage
You’re possibly more familiar with this band as being the reincarnation of the folks from Meese, but it’s a different project. The Centennial is ethereal, lo-fi, and provides an enchanting live performance.
Achille Lauro / 11:55 pm / Skylark Lounge – Verizon Wireless Stage
This band also made a fairly recent appearance on The Ruckus with their new single, “Low Cha Cha”. Close out Friday in style with Achille Lauro.
