I Dream in Colour – These Folded Arms

I hope you saw the video exclusive from I Dream in Colour up on the blog this week, here). The video comes from their upcoming EP release for ‘These Folded Arms’. The band have had a cracking year thus far; with a collection of festival dates, some buzzing support slots (with none other than Cloud Control) and headline shows across the UK and Europe, they’ve gone from strength to strength from when I first saw them playing a pub gig at the Old Queens Head in Islington last August.
The EP serves as a story of adolescence, of the lessons, the loves and the losses that we are so painfully subjected to. Setting us off along the story with, ‘Wide Awake’, lead singer Rich’s vocals are distinctive and powerful, alongside flawless drums and guitar. The song that I believe stands as a perfect example of faultless British Indie-Rock music is track 3 ‘Lessons’, dirty guitar riffs and catchy lyrics serve this song to do extremely well, this could be well be up there with the Arctic Monkeys, Miles Kane, and in my opinion, way way way above ‘(Viva) Brother’. Less drama, more music and honest lyrics. In ‘Hold On To Your Heart’ we find the EP title; lead singer, Rich declaring ‘These folded arms won’t hold you back’, this is what I mean about the honesty and poignancy in the music you can hear. ‘Ready to Go’ is maudlin, a slightly darker track than the rest, closing the EP nicely, but yet leaving listeners yearning for more.
It amazes me that many emerging bands go so unnoticed in the scene in London and ‘These Folded Arms’ could really put IDIC on the map, it’s a piece of music that could easily be played on the national airwaves, it’s catchy enough to gain some well deserved attention for the Essex four piece. I Dream in Colour are signed to Independent Label, Monotwin Records and ‘These Folded Arms’ is out on Monday 18 July – head over to I Dream in Colour’s Facebook for more info.
