Photos: Explosions In The Sky at Bonnaroo

I have loved Explosions In The Sky since 2003′s The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place was given to me by a friend in the winter of 2005. “First Breath After Coma” and “The Only Moment We Were Alone,” along with many of their other songs, have brought me through some really challenging times (including the entire year of 2009, if I’m honest). Their music is just like that, I think. I’d never had the chance to see them live, so I was thrilled when they were announced to play Bonnaroo.
Their set was to be my very last of the weekend (while Kenzie was off seeing The Strokes), so I headed over to the This Tent a bit early, talked to some of the kids in the crowd (hi, adorable Canadians!) and hung out with a videographer from Paper Fortress Films who was there shooting a documentary on the fan experience at Bonnarroo (totally excited about that) and who happens to be as big a fan of EITS as I am. It’s always thrilling to talk to people who are working shows and festivals who love the bands they’re shooting instead of just looking at it as a job (this is critical for me, which is why I’ll probably never be paid to do this work).
To make a long story short and let the photos tell it for me, Explosions In The Sky ended my Bonnaroo experience on an absolutely perfect note.
