Kyla La Grange. One of my favourite female live acts in London at the moment, completely mesmerising on stage; gorgeously gruff vocals that you don’t often expect and stage presence that just oozes from her and the band in whatever venue you see them in. Things are going from strength to strength for Kyla at the moment; she supported I Blame Coco last year and is heading out as tour support for Wolf Gang and her next single ‘Been Better’ is being released on Chess Club on July 11. In fact, you can get your sneaky peek of ‘Been Better’ right here and free download.
When I say that this venue was a toughie to shoot, it really was – cue me walking into said venue on the Brighton front into literally a completely dimly lit club, so much that you couldn’t see your hand in front of you. By the time I’d made my way through the packed out club to the edge of the stage for Kyla La Grange’s set, there was a chronic use of smoke machines that also provided me with a challenge. But, who cares frankly. With SXSW behind her and an array of tour dates, the striking blend of rock, pop and folk came together with such apparent ease. There is something organic to Kyla’s music and something that I know a lot of us find easy to relate to; it’s angry yet beautiful. Listen below to ‘Been Better’.

Kyla is playing a lot over the coming few months (my top tip is if you’re heading to hedonism heaven, check her out at Secret Garden Party – I imagine a barefoot and glitter faced Kyla will go down a treat.) Tour dates here on her website.
