Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is a bit special to me because I met my husband on a Friday the 13th. We got married on a 13th. However, that was awhile ago and I didn’t even realize it was Friday the 13th today until Melanie suggested it as a Top Five theme. Since it is the coolest theme ever, I decided to steal it. I’m sure Melanie will out do me next Friday the 13th, but here is where I ended up.
The Cure – The 13th
Where else would I start? The Cure are relevant to every day of the week for me, but especially Friday. The video for this inspired the rest of this playlist.
Laura Stevenson and the Cans – Halloween Pts. 1 & 2
Have we talked about Laura Stevenson and the Cans enough lately? In case you haven’t noticed, The Ruckus loves these folks. Friday the 13th is oft associated with the horror film of the same name, which spawned from Halloween. Which got me on the topic of murder.
Laura Stevenson & the Cans – Halloween Pts. 1 & 2
Josh Ritter -Folk Bloodbath
There’s no better way to start off talking about gruesome death than with this track. Josh Ritter combines two famous murder ballads into one bloody mess. Ritter joins the songs together with his own plea for the same fate to not befall himself and his loved ones. A hope for better luck.
Radiohead – Lucky
Have you heard of Radiohead? I think they’re rather unknown. I wanted a track about bad luck and this dreary tune came to mind. The sound creates some amazingly dark imagery.
U2 – An Cat Dubh
The black cat (an cat dubh) is the first image that comes to mind when I think of bad luck. I don’t subscribe to the superstition that a black cat crossing one’s path brings on a change of luck, but it’s pretty common lore.
