It has definitely got to that time again, the bigger festivals have released their ‘headliners’, the weather is (somewhat) getting warmer, the welly boots are being dusted off and we’re preparing for FESTIVAL SEASON. If you’re a follower of the blog you will have seen me preview ‘Barn on the Farm’ festival last year but if you’re new, let me get you a little acquainted to the intimate and wallet friendly, folk festival held in beautiful rolling British countryside. Hop on board and discover a few of your new favourite bands through their delicious line up.
I can’t write about Barn on the Farm and not mention the mesmeric Lucy Rose and her band. Heartbreakingly beautiful folk that has collectively stolen our Ruckus hearts. Adding some more clout behind Lucy is that she’s recorded vocals for Bombay Bicycle Club. Watch below and love.
Another favourite of mine to see live are those instrument swapping folkies, Pocket Satellite. Think twinkling polished folk music from a five piece who give everything they have got, it’s truly a pleasure to see this band play live. I have only seen them across North London in more intimate venues, so I am just that little bit pleased I’ll be cracking open a cider under the warm summer sky and watching them play.
At Secret Garden Party last year, Ed Sheeran blew our minds with eclectic mix of acoustic folk paired with beatbox loop pedalling. Once signed to the boutique label NR1, now he’s on Asylum/Atlantic and the world is more than paying attention. From the small living room tent at SGP to Jools Holland. Check this out below of his recent performance on national TV.
Broadcast 2000 were involved in the first Communion compilation and I actually think I’m the only Ruckus girl who hasn’t managed to catch them live. A collective of new-folkies of sorts, sure to mix things up and take it up a notch with their loop pedalling and energetic performances, let’s get on this.
Without a shadow of a doubt, go see Dog is Dead. Sure to be destined for great things, watch this video, just do it.
Just to tempt you to buy your tickets a little bit more, the sensational long time Ruckus favourite Marcus Foster will be performing songs from his latest EP, ‘Tumble Down’ which drips ‘whiskey and cigarettes’. Ruckus Presents performer (& life saver), Jamie Ley will be at the Festival providing some gorgeous Johnny Cash inspired Americana Folk. Having finally seen Ben Howard perform at Camden Crawl, all I can say is go see him perform with Gabrielle Aplin to be wowed by his sweet Damien Rice-esque vocals and jaw dropping use of his guitar.
