Kicking Off the Season with Pearl Street Music and Arts Festival

I’m taking a deep breath as I post this. It may be one of the last before I launch myself into festival season here in Colorado. There are a lot of amazing things coming up, but this one starts it all off. For two days (May 6th and 7th), Boulder becomes home to the Pearl Street Music and Arts Festival.
Boulder is what most people picture when they think of Colorado- a small town feel with gorgeous mountain views. In the heart lies Pearl Street, which is packed with local businesses, restaurants, and of course, music.
The Boulder Theater hosts the main music attractions. I feel like the line up was constructed with me in mind. Some really great national acts and local acts have been picked for this year including:
The Head and The Heart
Because you haven’t heard me talk about The Head and the Heart enough lately, this is an amazing act, especially live. This band has had a huge impact on me this year and I cannot wait to see them again. Check out my review from their first run through Colorado this year.
The Head and the Heart – Lost In My Mind
Gregory Alan Isakov
I am so proud to call Gregory Alan Isakov part of the Colorado scene. I tend to get into these patterns where I listen to a couple of his songs over and over again and yet the live performance still brings more depth to them.
Gregory Alan Isakov – That Moon Song
Paper Bird
Paper Bird is another big local name (and for good reason). They feature a style of vintage bluegrass with three exquisite female vocalists, brass, and a banjo.
Dr. Dog
I feel like Dr. Dog has been popping up everywhere lately and I can’t help but get on board with this. They are a psychedelic, lo-fi mix of styles.
Friday:
7:30 – 8:00 Ian Cooke
8:30 – 9:30 Gregory Alan Isakov
10:00 – 11:15 Mason Jennings
11:45 – 1:00 The Head and The Heart
Saturday:
8:00 – 9:00 Boulder Acoustic Society
9:30 – 10:30 Paper Bird
11:00 – 1:00 Dr. Dog
A handful of smaller venues will also be hosting music. Check out their lists here. I wish I could be in two places at once. Your festival pass will also get you a discount at a bunch of awesome local businesses from Saxy’s Cafe to Absinthe House to Om Time Yoga (full list here). I hope to see you there!
