Songs with Heart

I don’t know what percentage of songs are written about love: be it the beginning or the end of a relationship. I’ve also devoted many a mixtape to the subject. This one is brief but one of my favorites nonetheless. These tracks have a heavy emphasis on matters of the heart (and a title to match), guaranteed to pull on yours.
1. The Avett Brothers – Kick Drum Heart
“Kick Drum Heart” covers a lot of territory: it goes from slow to screaming in seconds. This is probably why I can listen to it a thousand time and it never gets old.

2. Jenny Owen Youngs – Here Is a Heart
This is a song about death; about cancer. There’s a bit of duality to it where one could read it being about a failing relationship, but to listen with a literal meaning in mind is chilling.

3. Josh Ritter – Empty Hearts
This song would almost be cheesy if Josh didn’t perform it with such sincerity. I can’t imagine me believing these words coming out of anyone else’s mouth.
4. Morrissey – Now My Heart Is Full
Vauxhall and I is some of Morrissey’s best, in my opinion. Though his work is usually more geared towards heartache, this one is broader. There’s a quirky sense of belonging to it.

5. Fake Problems – Heart BPM
This is the song that made me LOVE Fake Problems. The songwriting is amazing- it makes me ache every time.
