Missed Connection – Sick of Sarah

Hopefully Sick of Sarah‘s tour in support of their new album 2205
has gotten back on track. After an illness led to a few canceled
shows, a plumbing problem at their venue in Kansas City resulted in
the show I was going to attend being canceled. To say I was
disappointed in not getting to attend a live show is an
understatement.

Sick of Sarah – Overexposure

I stumbled upon Sick of Sarah a couple of years ago and their early
EPs and self titled album became a part of my iPod rotation
immediately. The release of 2205 late last year was mind blowing, and
five months later, I can still be found listening to the album on a
loop. On a loop without skipping any tracks. Not skipping any mediocre
tracks on an album is rare for me. There’s style="text-decoration: line-through;">always usually one or
two songs which I feel can be skipped on an album. Sick of Sarah have
managed to put together a solid album from beginning to end. From the
opening track “Overexposure” which makes me want to jump up and
down to “El Paso Blue” which I always seem to sing along to, I
love it.

My favorite track is “One Night Stand”. A seductive song
with a great bass line, with enigmatic lyrics, and when the drums come
in on the chorus, I’m sold. 2205 is the reason why Sick of Sarah went
from outside of the top 20 to the number 2 spot on my href="http://www.last.fm/user/lost_in_grovont/charts?rangetype=overall&subtype=artists">Last.fm
artists overall chart over the past couple of months.

I don’t want to discount SOS’s earlier releases. There are good
tracks – including “Common Mistake” and “Give Me A
Reason” – but many of the songs are not comparable to the sound of
their recent release. However, “Bittersweet” and
“Breakdown” from their self-titled album are hints of what is
to come from Sick of Sarah, and that’s punk rock.

In February 2011, Sick of Sarah took a chance by href="http://blog.bittorrent.com/2011/02/15/brand-new-sick-of-sarah-album-premieres-today-in-the-app-studio/">releasing
their album for free on BitTorrent. Even the band
seemed skeptical about giving their album away for free in href="http://www.youtube.com/user/SickofSarah#p/u/14/hI4MtQsFjEY">an
entry of the video journal of their tour. As of March 16, 2011, href="http://blog.bittorrent.com/2011/03/16/bittorrent-ecosystem-zenith-episode-one-takes-the-spotlight-as-sick-of-sarah/">they
have passed one million downloads.

Sick of Sarah are at SXSW right now and then href="http://www.facebook.com/sickofsarah?sk=events">continuing their
tour through the US before visiting the UK and Canada. You will
also have the opportunity to see them on the Warped Tour this
summer.
