Music Monday isn’t really an excuse for a free download but have one anyway courtesy of Huw Olesker (not a MySpace link, win) and Turf Records. 15 year old Huw (who is partial to the odd voicemail in which he will sing your name whilst he plays his Ukulele) from Portsmouth on the South Coast of England recently signed to London based label, Turf Records. Huw is everything that a teenager should be; cocky, potty mouthed and with a penchant for punk hair-styles. But Huw possesses an incredible talent in mixing wit and non-conformism into perfectly punched Ukulele tunes. I caught Huw at Blissfields Festival back in July and then again saw him turn a crowd to tears of laughter at Secret Garden Party.

Following that, we caught him with his band, Zoo in the Sky at Southsea Fest. Huw has since appeared on our home turf (ha) in London at The Lock Tavern and The Old Queens Head, regular haunts of ours and once again he turned the in-their-20s crowds to laughter, even the barmaids wiping tears from their eyes.

Huw’s single release ‘Rhinos’ is now available for free on the below Soundcloud widget – or go directly to the Soundcloud. ‘They give Rhinos homes/not like Sherlock Holmes ’cause he’s a detective’ is just one of the amazing lyrics written and performed by Huw. The song will make you laugh, which is just what we all need in January; ‘Rhinos’ was a school project turned into a song by Huw. Huw has drawn comparisons from a young Jamie T and Beans on Toast, which is accolade in itself. Check it out below and get it free now.
