The Gallery Cafe & The Ruckus Collaborate

The lovely East London Veggie/Vegan cafe, The Gallery Cafe has asked London HQ to collaborate on a night of exceedingly good music next Thursday the 29th. We’re keeping the price of the night very low – £3 only as we know gigs can be very expensive and holding it at the Cafe means there will be a portion going to charity. The cafe selected a variety of acts, so who are they?
Matt Kebbell – Having previously played The Great Escape Festival and naming influences from The Rolling Stones to Ol’ Dirty Bastard, I’m officially intrigued. There’s a touch of Leonard Cohen mixed with Johnny Cash to his music and has shared stages with the likes of the amazingly talented James Yuill. Check out the below video and see for yourself, Matt has a deeply soulful voice and we’re looking forward to seeing him.
The Telegrams – Telegrams are a groundbreaking four-piece hailing from south London, combining progressive rock, folk, indie and electronica influences to create haunting and intricate songs of love, loss and the great beyond. They get MAJOR Ruckus points for having a gorgeously designed website and even a blog! Bloggers playing for bloggers, I like. They even had their album launch at our favourite venue, The Flowerpot in Kentish Town.
Based in the heart of Nottingham, Cecille Grey are Aurélie Guinard (Vocals, Guitar, Mouth Piano, Glockenspiel), Phil McGough (Drums & Cajon), Nabeena Mali (Borrowed Guitars) and Michael Hutchinson (Electric Super Bass). They describe themselves as “Regina Spektor meets Laura Veirs at a Rooibos tea party hosted by Françoise Hardy”, and interesting visual I am sure you will agree. I have been listening to their myspace and I think “Closer” is my favourite of their tracks. I am really excited to see what these guys can do live! Check them out at www.myspace.com/cecillegrey
Cambridgeshire born Jonah Maddox decided to start writing songs at the very young age of 8 years old. Formerly a member of Brighton based band Les Oeufs, he’s spent the last year recording his debut album, Together We Are Taller, which features a collaboration with another Ruckus favourite, Jose Vanders. Described as having a cheeky charm onstage, a live show can either be Jonah alone or a group of musicians, so I’m really intrigued to see what happens on the night. Check out his myspace at www.myspace.com/jonahmaddox
We hope to see you there, remember it’s only £3! And the food prices at The Gallery cafe are incredibly reasonable for London and the food is just delicious (I’m hoping for their to die for cupcakes myself).
