Gig preview: In Store Live Summer Sessions

What better way to spend an early Friday summer evening than watching some free live sessions? I caught wind of these and decided to share, because really, free gigs in London are rather rare, so I say go along.
Summer on Carnaby Street may scream tourists and crowds but you’ll know it has a good solid history of music. The sessions are being held at Merc Clothing Store, a brand that was started at the height of the swinging 60s, and is still going strong. Merc has worked with some exciting names before, including The Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian and Franz Ferdinand (side note: I accidentally ate dinner with Franz Ferdinand once, and I kind of like them).
The gigs run every other Friday at 6pm from now until September 10th, and the music is varied; anything from blues and funk to my personal recommendation of Indie Folksters, Patch William. The band’s sound seriously reminds me of one of my favourite London Indie-Folk-Poet-Rappers (I hate picking genres, okay), Jamie T. They’ve even been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award and are tipped to be big in the London scene this year.
Free gigs, good music, Friday in central London; it’s not rocket science, yeah? Check out Merc.com for more info.
