Amanda Palmer: Amanda Palmer Performs the Popular Hits of Radiohead on Her Magical Ukulele

I’m a big fan of covers. I love to hear the art reimagined and restyled. It also doesn’t hurt when I’m a fan of the artist doing the covers and the artist being covered. This is the case with Amanda Palmer‘s Radiohead project.
The combination of ukulele and piano is striking- it isn’t exactly a common combination, but Amanda owns it. “High and Dry” is my favorite track, oddly as it was never a particular favorite of mine on The Bends. Amanda’s voice is just so mournful and lovely. The vocals and the sparse sound of the ukulele just make it perfect for me. Also included are two live versions of “Creep” as well as an orchestrated take on “Exit Music (For A Film)” featuring Ruckus favorite, Zoe Keating.
The album is available here on Bandcamp for a minimum cost of of 84¢, 54¢ of which going directly back into Radiohead’s pockets for the legal use of their songs and the remaining 30¢ going to PayPal to cover the transaction fee. In the style of Radiohead’s own In Rainbows, this is a pay what you want deal. If you’re interested in more than a digital copy, there are a variety of packages available here.
