People We Like: Fanfarlo

Written by Melanie  //  January 14, 2010  //  Features  //  1 Comment

I’m kind of in love with Fanfarlo (kind of very), this phenomenal London based indie pop band that I first heard at random about a year ago (they’re still new – if you get in on this now, you can claim a little indie cred later when everyone is on the bandwagon). With an elegant mastery of multiple instruments (mainstays like guitar and drums are prevalent, but they make extensive use of the trumpet, violin and mandolin as well), this six person band (featuring lead singer Simon Balthazar and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas’s ethereal, dreamy harmonies) will make you think of Arcade Fire, in the very best way.

And lucky for you (if you’re on the West Coast), they have announced more U.S. headlining dates kicking off February 20th at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre.

February 2010 U.S.TOUR DATES:

February 20 El Rey Theatre Los Angeles, CA
February 22 Great American Music Hall San Francisco, CA
February 23 Doug Fir Portland, OR
February 24 Crocodile Café Seattle, WA
February 25 Knitting Factory Spokane, WA
February 27 Urban Lounge Salt Lake City, UT
February 28 Larimer Lounge Denver, CO

In other news, on February 16th Fanfarlo will release an exclusive 6-song iTunes Live EP. Additionally on that same day the band will release a 7” vinyl that will feature “Harold T. Wilkins” on the A-side and a live version of “Comets” from their recent iTunes session on the B-side.

You can catch Fanfarlo at Fanfarlo.com, and on MySpace.

I may or may not have this song on repeat right now.
    (Hint: I do.)
Thanks for the awesome heads up. I might check them out here in Seattle in February now…
