We Are Enfant Terrible are a young trio from Paris who make catchy synthpop with guitars, drums and a re-programmed Nintendo Gameboy. The Teenagers are another young French trio who make (as they call it) sleazy French pop. This is what happens when one trio remixes the other - it's pretty damn glorious.
Long time readers of this blog will probably not be surprised to see more on Frank Turner here. The simple truth is that we love Frank Turner. We can't stop listening to Frank Turner. We are thinking of changing the name of our blog to...just kidding - but we do hope that you're just as excited as we are to catch up with the infamous Mr. Turner once again.
During Frank's last visit to Denver, I had the chance to grab a few moments of his time. He begins the interview by pulling out a bottle of whiskey and drinking from it. “I’m not trying to look rock ‘n roll. It’s good for my voice and I have to be on stage quite soon. I’m really not warmed up today.”
The simple fact is that Frank Turner doesn't have to try to look rock 'n roll - he is rock 'n roll, and that indefinable quality is undeniable in everything from his personality to his performance.

The lovely Megan Burtt and her amazing band, The Cure To Love, debuted It Ain't Love to a sold out crowd at Denver's Walnut Room last Thursday evening.
Ms. Burtt and band played through the album, both acoustic and electric numbers, with obvious skill. For the gorgeous "One Wing", a cello and violin joined the mix. The show was a blast and I'm glad I could be there.
This release is going to skyrocket Megan Burtt's career. There is no doubt in my mind that she will be very famous very soon. Ms. Burtt has a classically beautiful voice that pairs perfectly with the gorgeous guitar on It Ain't Love. Each track is perfectly suited to Burtt's voice, which stays crystal clear on each and every one.
It Ain't Love strikes me as a breakup album, but comes from a place of self-realization and empowerment. As you travel with Burtt through her lessons learned and shared stories, you come out stronger. As the title track says:
"it ain't love if you gotta try / it ain't love if you gotta hold it tight / what we had it was never right / it ain't love"
It Ain't Love begins with a crash and my favorite song of the album, the anthemic "Pay It Now". This one is full of power and metaphor with lyrics like:
"I would love to dress it up in a beautiful costume"
which allow the listener to get inside the song. "Too Damn Hard" takes on a darker, more minor tune about broken-down honesty. Clever lyrics intermix with the rhythm-heavy accompaniment. On the softer side of things is the acoustic "Waited For June". This track is Joni Mitchell-esque and incredibly beautiful.
This record is poppy enough to be easily accessible, yet contains some incredible originality. The progressive fashion of Megan Burtt's soulful song writing is refreshing. Make sure to get a copy of this one.
Last March, Pitchfork named the ethereal Yeah Yeah Yeahs song "Skeletons" Best New Track. Almost a year later we finally get a video. I'm happy to say it was worth the wait.
Directed by Karen O's boyfriend Barney Clay, the clip features smokey projections of the band as they haunt a black-and-white graveyard. Karen kinda looks like the Bride of Frankenstein in it.
